Message Since thats the sweet spot for performace tires right now. In the future 17's could get tougher to find in a variety of sizes and [low]prices(like 16's are now).

So, basically I agree 17s are fine, but so are 18's and while quality 18" wheels are still more expensive than the bargin 17" SPLparts 5Zigen specials right now, the tires in some lines are identically priced (between 17 and 18 - more often with more variety in 18" sizes). I say you are more "future proof" with light more expensive 18" wheels now. But, there is nothing wrong with 17's either (for now). Once a quality lightweight 18" wheel makes it way to comparable prices I will have to go to recommending that route.

I wish I was smarter and could know for sure if a suspension engineer really puts alot of time into designing the suspension around the intended WHEEL diameter. But since I'm not, I'll just take your word for it, heh. I'm sure you are right.

For the record my 285/30-18 TIRES are the exact same diameter as the stockers (the ones I bought largely due to YOUR endoresment of them - I heart Guapo).
